Wedding stories
It was a fun time in Denver. Good to see the whole family again. And I got to see a Rockies game. But, by far, the best part about it was the wedding. It was such a beautiful ceremony, done entirely by friends. My toast, despite the almost non-existent planning, went well. (I actually got several compliments on it.) It went something like this:
"Hi. I'm the best man today, and that means I get to make the toast. I thought about what I was going to say, tossed around a few ideas. And then I thought maybe I'll just wing it. When I told Kevin, he said two words to me: Wing it! So here goes. There will be hard times, later, when you'll be tempted to say something in anger. Before you do, take a deep breath, look her in the eye, remember today, and say 'I love you.' I'd also like to give you the best bit of advice I ever got: keep each other laughing. Finally, I hope you both find as much joy as Saundra and I do, and more."
I also got to meet my new in-laws (inlaw-inlaws?) and I am pleased. Without exception, they are wonderful people and I can't wait to see more of them.
My dad proved his engineering juju while we were getting ready. Instead of ties, we wore a sort of disc over our top button (looked really sharp, too). Well, one of the ring bearers' (my sister's boys) discs fell off the clamping mechanism thing. Instantly everyone ran over to where the band was setting up for some duct tape, but there was none. My dad found someone with some chewing gum, chewed it for a minute, then pulled a small piece off to stick the pieces together. That, I believe, is the first time I've actually seen someone use gum for construction.
A fantastic time was had by all.
