Holy crap!

Well, just got busted out of my blogger tourney...in 133! Out of 1473! 99 finished "in the money." I could have (maybe) made it. My final hand, I had JKo in the small blind, and for some reason decided I could call all-in. A pair of 8's beat the crap out of me, and I had to relinquish my seat. But 133! I had no expectation of outlasting anyone, much less 1300+ people. (Including Wil Wheaton who is responsible on two levels for me even being there.)

And I got to see the coolest hand ever! Some dude went all-in w/ A6. Here comes the flop: A A A! Seriously! I was so glad I didn't go in on that hand. Unbelievable.

See ya, folks! Have fun!

How cool is that?!

Check this out.

I think it's absolutely freaking cool that a school is using technology so effectively. I don't know about you guys, but I graduated in '89, and all my textbooks were printed in 1972. All the people pictured inside them had bell-bottoms, wide collars, and afros. Heck, even the soundboard they used for pep rallies, plays, and just about everything else that required amplifed sound was older than me. I can't possibly imagine them introducing a program like that.

Today's wife-quote: "The driver qualifies it as a hoopty."

And today's church marquee: "Jesus Saves!"

Not very original, but it always puts me in mind of a T-shirt with that same inscription. It showed a man with a loincloth and crown of thorns completely horizontal blocking a soccer ball from the goal he is tending. Everytime I see something that says "Jesus Saves," I think of that image and it makes me smile.

I'm Still Not Old

So now I'm 34. Unsurprisingly, today looks much like Thursday, when I was 33. But now I can call people whippersnappers. No, wait. I've been doing that for years.

Was it something I said?

I'm teaching a new guy how to do one of the many jobs I do. A couple nights ago, after doing some hands-on training, we go back to the office for some more "book study." He stops me and tells me that he's having panic attacks. He feels overwhelmed by the information and the pressure of having to learn it and/or do the job.

Now, as anyone who does this job can tell you, it's not a tough job, and only occasionally exerts any pressure on you. It's not particularly difficult. But I can't help but think that maybe I'm going too fast for him, or that I'm reflecting the exception rather than the rule.

It's enough to give me anxiety issues.

You'll never guess what I did!

Poker Championship

I have registered to play in the
Online Poker Blogger Championship!

This event is powered by PokerStars.

Registration code: 3961007

Pretty sweet! The entry is free to anyone who has a blog, and the prizes are cool (and big for the big winners). I figure you can't win if you don't play, so what the heck! What have I got to lose...
